History & Purpose

The Kennebec Valley Indicator Project’s (KVIP) goal is to involve local citizens, community based coalitions, and organizations in increasing the progress made toward local, state and national community health and quality of life objectives.

KVIP has worked since 1997 with local health, social service, faith based, governmental and citizen groups to identify health and quality of life indicators from a local perspective. Citizens have selected health, environmental, educational, economic, infrastructure, cultural, community decision making and social support indicators they feel need to be worked on in this region of Maine. Indicator reports have been published in 1997 and 2000.  In 2004, the indicator report was provided on line at www.kvindicators.org

The Indicator Work Group which oversees this project reviews outcomes and indicators related to the community projects  to assure ongoing  monitoring of  changes in the community, and to evaluate the impact of  this community's collaborative organizational efforts including  public policy change, public education, and program interventions.

Current staff for this effort is an outcome specialist consultant, and in kind contributions from MaineGeneral Health. Funding to support the outcomes specialist fees and report development comes from MaineGeneral Health and "outcome specialist" consulting fees budgeted for in grants and organizational budgets who participate in the project and benefit from the availability of the evaluation and data expertise.
