Title:  The Cost of Health Care in Maine  (November, 2000)

Report of the year 2000 Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Care to Governor Angus King

Summary:  An analysis of health care costs, factors that contribute to the rising costs, and some potential approaches to stabilize costs.  Contains written summaries as well as charts and graphs of relating to the above mentioned topic areas.  The information is statewide and does not break any of the data into smaller regions.

 

Title:  Profiling Uninsured Persons in Three Maine Counties Results of a Household Survey (August 2000)

MaineHealth Access Project - Sponsored by MaineHealth and DHS

Summary: The study reports findings from a random phone survey designed to develop a demographic profile of the uninsured population and to estimate the rate of health insurance coverage in Cumberland, Kennebec, and Lincoln Counties.  Screening interviews were completed with 3,059 households during March and April 2000.  Detailed interviews, collecting information on health status and utilization of health services, were completed with persons in households with incomes below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level who were currently uninsured or had a recent period of uninsurance.  Contains charts graphs and written summaries of data, much of which gets broken down into county level. (Cumberland, Kennebec, and Lincoln counties)

 

Title: A Primer on Health Care Coverage in Maine (2001)

Summary: The document summarizes an assessment of the health care needs of Maine's residents with the goal of improving the quality of health care for medically uninsured and underserved residents in Maine

Uses data and written summary to answer following questions.  How do most Maine residents obtain health insurance?  Who are Maine residents without health insurance?  How does lack of health insurance affect access to health care?  Who pays the cost of health care in Maine?  Why doesn't employer-sponsored insurance cover more Mainers?  What are the Roles of Maine's Medicaid and Cub Care programs?

Cardiovascular Health

Title: Women and Cardiovascular Health: An Action Plan for Maine (2002) 28 pages

Summary:  Made through a collaboration of the Maine Women's Health Campaign and the Maine Cardiovascular Health Council, this document aims to improving the cardiovascular health of women in Maine.  Sets Goals around these five different areas partnership and community involvement, infrastructure, clinical practice, public information, and surveillance.  Contains objectives, rationale and strategies to reach each goal.

Title: Maine Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS 1999)

Summary: population based sample survey administered to Maine mothers within a few months after delivery.  Data shows results of questions asked about the mothers' experiences before, during and after pregnancy.

PRAMS is an on-going, population-based surveillance system designed to identify and monitor selected maternal behaviors and experiences before, during, and after pregnancy among women who have recently given birth to a live infant. The Eastern Maine Healthcare Community Health Needs Assessment/A Special Focus on Substance Abuse

Summary: Document shows results of a Health Care Needs and Service Planning study for northern, eastern and central Maine.  Goal of the study was to identify key health care service issues in those communities and to develop a comprehensive health plan to improve services and service delivery for residents.  Contains data, graphs and written summaries.

 

Title: Community Health Profiles (2000) 22-23 pages per county

The ten counties of southern, central and western Maine        (MaineHealth)

Summary:  Different section for each of the 10 counties.  Each section contains introduction, demographic information, data from the Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) Indicators and a community resources section.  The Kennebec County data also gets further divided in to northern and southern Kennebec County.

Title: Fairfield Community Health Assessment (November 8th 2000) 30 pages

Fairfield Community Health Assessment Planning Committee / Greater Waterville PATCH

Summary: (project was done in response to reported cancer cluster) Purpose of the assessment was to identify health issues that might be of concern to Fairfield residents and to develop action goals to address such concerns.  Focused primarily on Fairfield Center.  Section 1 assesses residents on their health issues and concerns.  Section 2 is secondary data for the town of Fairfield, Maine, Kennebec and Somerset Counties.
